Table of Contents
The GeoNetWeaver Setup wizard walks you page by page through the process of setting up a geoproject.
Knowledge Base Page
Geoprojects are required to have a knowledge base.
Results Page
Topics of Interest
In this context results are topics that you want to map. Dependency networks (goals) and equations (calcs) can be set up for mapping. Simple datalinks are mapped automatically if they influence a result topic. Dependency networks (goals) and equations (calcs) each have their own tabs. To include a topic as a result checkmark it. Hint: the context menu (right-click) has an action for selecting all topics in the list at once.
Legend
GeoNetWeaver has built-in mapping defaults that are satisfactory in most situations. However, you can customize how maps are rendered and statistics classified. To edit a topic's display characteristics select it and edit the characteristics to the right of the list:
Display Caption
The display caption is the name that will be shown for the topic. The default is the topic's name in the knowledge base.
Class Count
The class count is the number of classes that will be used for the statistics for the topic. The default is 11.
Class Properties
- Class Colors Class colors are ramped between the colors shown. Click in a color box to open a color dialog to change the color.
- Include middle color (dependency networks only) If checked the class colors will ramp between three colors (typically: green to yellow to red).
- Class Names (dependency networks only) the names associated with the highest, lowest, and, if checked, the middle classes.
Options
- Include in outline root If checked the topic will be added to root of the outline on the Outline tab of GeoNetWeaver. GeoNetWeaver will make sure that all antecedent topics to any that are selected for the outline will be included in the outline and will also be results and consequently mappable.
Apply to All ...
The apply to all button will make all of the topics in the current list have the same class properties (class count, colors, class names, etc.) as the currently selected topic. This action works independently for dependency networks (goals) and equations (calcs).
Geoprojects are required to have at least one result.
Data Sources Page
This is where you tell GeoNetWeaver how to link to your data. The easiest method is to import an already built database configuration file that you created using NetWeaver Developer.
Open the Database Connection Setup utility.
Master shapefile
GeoNetWeaver uses one shapefile, the master shapefile, as its geometry source and to coordinate all other database tables. This shapefile's table must be set up as a master over all other tables in the geoproject (see Database Table Joins).
Startup Options Page
The startup options are the initial settings when the geoproject is opened. These settings can all be changed on-the-fly at runtime.
Statistics Weight Source
Area weighting is the default method for weighting statistics. The available weighting methods are:
- <none> - No weighting is performed. Each feature (polygon or place) has equal weight.
- area - The area of the polygon is used to weight the statistics.
- X topic in kb - The value of the topic is used to weight each feature (polygon or place). The topic needs to be numeric. A common alternative to area weighting is weighting by population.
Show Result
If a topic is selected here its map will displayed automatically whenever the geoproject is first opened.
Other
This is a list of settings for startup. Currently included:
- Show polygon outlines in mapped results
- Include effects of missing data in map rendering
Other Options Page
GeoProject Name
The default geoproject name is the same as the knowledge base's name.
Tab Visibility
This is a list of tabs that can be hidden. All tabs that have content are visible by default.
Legend Page
GeoNetWeaver legends are defined using the MapWindow GIS application. http://mapwindow.org MapWindow GIS is installed with GeoNetWeaver. The legend is optional.
